Exploring Cave Point County Park

Head up into Wisconsin's outdoor gem- Door County to find a cool stop off the main drag located along the shores of Lake Michigan. Cave Point County Park neighbors Whitefish Dune State Park on the northern portion of the park and is about 10 minutes (on Clarks Lake/County Road Wd) west of highway 57 if you're heading out of Jacksonport towards Sturgeon Bay.

Here rock outcroppings and sharp limestone bluffs allow for exploring and viewing of the many caves, nooks and alcoves cut away by Lake Michigan's mighty waves. There's a trail above the cliffs with easy-view access points but I'd strongly recommend, depending on the tide, climbing down and walking along the rocky shores. The cold water feels insanely refreshing and is crystal clear. You'll see several cairns built in the water that serve as a guide  where to safely walk, but, be very careful of where you walk so you don't slip into a  pothole and get swept out into the undertow. One careless slippery step could lead to a bad ending.

Also how great are those dramatic skies in the last photo?
